Willis Warren Powell III, 52, of the 5500 block of Normandy Ave., died Oct. 17, 1995, in his residence.
He was formerly employed as a safety inspector with Moon Engineering. He was a native of Gates County, N.C., and was a Baptist. He was a graduate of Duke University and also Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn T. Powell of Virginia Beach; sister, Eloise P. Martens of Birmingham, Ala., and her husband, Dr. W. Fred Martens; brother, Robert T. Powell Sr., of Virginia Beach, and his wife, Pat Powell; two nieces, Karen M. Fischer of Maryville, Tenn., and Monica P. Olmstead of Mechanicsville, Va.; two nephews, Bobby Powell of Virginia Beach and W. Keith Martens of Rock Hill, S.C.; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Willis Warren Powell Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Paul D. Moore in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Kempsville Rescue Squad.
