Three Norfolk State University students have been charged with raping a 12-year-old in a Petersburg motel room last weekend.
Sgt. Patrick Kelleher of the Petersburg Police Department said Wednesday that the three men were kept in the Petersburg Jail until a court appearance Monday when a Juvenile Court judge set bond. All three returned to Norfolk Monday.
Kelleher said Willie L. Walker, 22, and Terrence J. Fields, 18, were charged with rape, sodomy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Terrill B. Fields, 21, was charged with rape and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Kelleher could not say if the Fieldses are related.
Kelleher gave this account of Saturday's arrest:
Police were called at 7 a.m. by the girl's mother, who said that she had been tipped by telephone that her daughter was at the Best Western Motel with seven adult males. When police entered the motel room they found the girl with Walker, Terrence Fields, Terrill Fields and four other men.
One of the other men listed Norfolk as his place of residence, the other three listed Petersburg. Police could not say Wednesday if the four other men also were NSU students.
Charges are possible against the other three while the investigation continues, Kelleher said.
The men, he said, were in Petersburg to attend homecoming at Virginia State University.
