Clarinetist William Rond Hudgins, son of Portsmouth natives Edward E. and Jane Terrill Hudgins, is the featured soloist for performances Saturday to Tuesday with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Hudgins was named principal clarinetist for the renowned orchestra in August 1994. In that position, he succeeded the late legendary clarinetist Harold Wright, who was among his teachers.
For concerts on Friday, Saturday and Tuesday, Hudgins will perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the orchestra, led by conductor Seiji Ozawa.
``We're going up for the Friday concert,'' said Hudgins father, Edward, who lives in Deltaville, Va. ``It's going to be a family reunion.''
Hudgins and his clarinetist wife, Catherine, were featured on National Public Radio's ``Performance Today'' in the early 1990s.
Among the musician's Portsmouth relatives is his uncle, Charles Rond Hudgins Jr. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
