WEDNESDAY

VISIT THE MALL and you'll see that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Disney gets a leg up on the competition Wednesday with the video release of ``The Santa Clause,'' last year's $145 million hit. Tim Allen, star of ABC's ``Home Improvement,'' made his big-screen debut as a divorced dad who steps in for St. Nick when the big guy takes a tumble. There'll be loads of rental copies, but it's also priced to go at $19.99. Sounds like a stocking stuffer.

SUNDAY

COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND Waylon Jennings, his band and his singin' wife, Jessi Colter, will be in Edenton, N.C. - of all places - for two shows Sunday.

They will be at Swain Auditorium at 2 and 5 p.m.

Jennings was the first country artist to land a platinum album, for ``Wanted: The Outlaws.'' It may have been that honor that prompted John Lennon to tell him, ``people in England think you shoot folks.''

Tickets for the non-violent performance - Jennings is a pussycat these days - range from $20 to $30. Legends cost.

For information on the concert, sponsored by the Chowan Arts Council, call (919) 482-8005.

WEDNESDAY

THE FOLK, ROCK AND world-beat influences of Rusted Root recently sent the road-seasoned Pittsburgh band's major-label debut, ``When I Woke,'' over the half-million sales mark. The gold record preceded their current headlining tour, which brings Rusted Root to the Boathouse at 8 p.m. Wednesday night. Joan Osborne (``One of Us'') opens, in a follow-up to her recent appearance at the Naro Expanded Cinema's benefit for Hope House. Tickets: $12 advance, $14 at the door. 671-8100.
