KOREAN WAR VETERANS GATHERING AT THE BEACH

Veterans of the Korean War years will be holding a reunion at the Beach this weekend, including a Saturday morning parade along Atlantic Avenue.

The four-day event is intended to honor those who served in the armed forces during the years of the war, whether in Korea or other parts of the world.

About 450 veterans are registered to attend, and a master data base of veterans has been compiled to help participants locate old friends.

Today's activities will begin with a reunion breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, Atlantic Avenue and 36th Street. The cost is $15 per person.

A golf outing at Oceana Naval Air Station begins at 8 a.m. for a $45 fee; a lunch and entertainment program for non-golfers for $16 per person; a bowling tournament from 2 to 5 p.m. at Oceana for $20 per person; and free entertainment will be offered at the 24th Street stage from 4 to 9 p.m.

A banquet and '50s dance beginning at 6 p.m. will end the day. The cost is $40 per person, and participants are encouraged to wear their service uniforms.

Saturday will kick off with a parade up Atlantic Avenue from 12th to 31st streets. There will be a memorial service at the 17th Street park at 5 p.m., followed by a re-enactment of the last hour of the last day of the Korean War at the Pier at 13th Street at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks.

For more information and registration, visit the registration tent at Atlantic Avenue and 25th Street. Registration costs $20 per person. by CNB
