Unlike Tina Baran (``Family-friendly jobs needed,'' letter, Oct. 6), I don't think America needs to wake up; she does.
If she is looking for employment Monday through Friday during school hours, retail stores and grocery stores are the wrong places for her to look.
Let's face it: We all know that these establishments are open seven days a week and into the night hours. She should reassess her employment opportunities and look at establishments that are in operation during the hours she desires to work (give or take a couple of hours).
She is being unrealistic when she downs the system because it does not cater to her personal needs.
A large portion of the work force is made up of working mothers who put in eight hours a day at work and still spend quality evening time (and weekends) with their children. The opportunities are most certainly there.
The system does work, if approached with reason and understanding. The system takes enough beatings as it is. It shouldn't be beat unnecessarily.
