TALLWOOD LOOKS TO TOPPLE ARCHRIVAL KEMPSVILLE

Few teams have come further faster than Tallwood.

The Lions reached the region playoffs in 1994 in only their third year, and this season have been ranked in the top 10 every week.

One thing Tallwood hasn't done is beat archrival Kempsville. The Chiefs will seek to make it five straight victories over the Lions in a key Beach District game tonight at Tallwood.

Kempsville (6-0, 5-0) is ranked fifth and tied with Green Run for the Beach District lead. Tallwood (5-1, 4-1) is ranked seventh and trails both the Chiefs and Stallions by one game.

Kempsville swept the Lions last year, winning 17-0 in the regular season and 6-3 in the first round of the Eastern Region Division 6 playoffs.

``I don't have to say a whole lot this week,'' Tallwood coach Ken Barto said. ``We're fired up. We have the playoffs on our mind and so do they.''

Elsewhere, No. 8 Granby (3-3, 0-1) and Norview (3-3, 1-1) try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive in an Eastern District game at Chittum Field.

In the Southeastern District, top-ranked Deep Creek (6-0, 3-0) visits Oscar Smith (3-3, 2-1) in a matchup of teams ranked in the top 4 in scoring defense.

In the Bay Rivers District, Lakeland plays host to Franklin. The Cavaliers have scored 96 points in their past two games.

In the only Tidewater Conference matchup, Nansemond-Suffolk can gain a share of second place with a victory at home against Hampton Roads Academy. [For complete schedules, please see microfilm] by CNB
