James Whitley won a quarterback showdown with Penn State-bound Anthony King as he led Norview to 33-14 Eastern District victory over Granby Friday night at Chittum Field.
Whitley, who completed 9 of 16 passes for 106 yards, threw for three touchdowns and ran for two as the Pilots improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the district. The Comets dropped to 3-4, 1-2.
Norview scored on its second possession when Garrion Baker capped a 9-play, 74-yard drive with an 11-yard reception.
King then marched the Comets 65 yards before he snuck in from 1 yard out on a keeper. Granby missed the extra point.
The Comets took a 14-7 lead 4:25 later when King rolled out of the pocket to score from 4 yards out after Whitley was picked off at the Norview 49.
But Whitley and the Pilots came back for another six points with 1:26 left in the half when David Martin snagged a 30-yard pass on third down after dropping the first two tries.
Norview took the lead for good with 10:35 left to play in the fourth quarter after a scoreless third when Whitley charged over the goal line from a yard out, capping a 12-play, 80-yard drive. A minute later Levar Brown intercepted King to set up a 16-yard TD pass to Joe Jordan.

Green Run 35 Cox 3
VIRGINIA BEACH - Leading rusher Cedric Warren didn't play and standout receiver Plaxico Burress failed to catch a pass, but Larron Jones stepped up, rushing for 95 yards and three touchdowns for the No. 2 Stallions.
Double- and triple-teaming by Cox (3-4, 3-3) shut out Burress, while Green Run coach Cadillac Harris said he rested Warren as precaution because of the dehydration he suffered during the week.
Jones scored on runs of one and 11 yards and Ed Cuffee added a 38-yard touchdown run as the Stallions (7-0, 6-0) built a 21-3 halftime lead despite running 13 plays. Jones added a 5-yard scoring run and Larry Jordan ran 26 yards for a touchdown in the second half.

Indian River 7 Great Bridge 0
CHESAPEAKE - Quarterback James Boyd hit Sam Hardy on a 23-yard touchdown pass with six seconds remaining to lift the No. 3 Braves.
Indian River drove 44 yards in six plays after gaining possession with 1:32 to go following a Great Bridge punt. Hardy tipped the ball, then Wildcats defensive back Curtis Faubion touched it before Hardy hauled it in for the score.
Indian River (6-1, 3-1) squandered two scoring opportunities in the first half, one at the end of the first quarter when Robert Ziegenfuss intercepted Boyd in the end zone after the Braves had advanced to the Wildcats 18. In the second quarter, Hardy made a 42-yard reception at the Great Bridge 18, part of which a clipping penalty negated. Daniel Ross and David Liston then combined on a sack of Boyd.
Great Bridge fell to 1-7, 1-4.

Norcom 16 Wilson 6
PORTSMOUTH - The Greyhounds put together two long scoring drives in the first half and then staved off mistakes with sterling defense to turn back a winless Wilson team that was playing on emotion.
The Presidents (0-8, 0-6) played without seven starters, including quarterback Terrance Winston. Two were dropped from the team, two were suspended for the game by coach Joe Ladisic, two were ineligible for one game after being ejected in last week's game and another was sick and did not dress.
Norcom coach Joe Langston also held out one of his regulars. The Greyhounds (2-5, 2-4) drove 53 yards in five plays for a first-quarter touchdown plunge by quarterback Kevin Jones and went 70 yards in seven plays for a second-period score, with Briheim Rice scampering 18 yards.
Wilson scored in the third quarter when Terry Vincent, playing offense for the first time this year, gathered in a deflected pass in the end zone. - BILL LEFFLER
Princess Anne 31 Maury 24
VIRGINIA BEACH - The running of Mike Majette and timely defensive plays by Chris McDaniels and Charles Hughes spurred the Cavaliers (2-5) to their second straight win.
Majette rolled for 215 yards and four touchdowns on 26 carries and had another 76-yard TD run reduced to an 18-yard gain by a penalty. Majette's big night gave him 1,020 yards and 12 TDs on the year.
With the score tied at 24 in the fourth quarter, McDaniels recovered a Maury fumble at the Commodores 39, setting up Aaron Mitchell's 19-yard TD run that decided the issue. Hughes intercepted a pass in the end zone as time expired.
William Black rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns for Maury (2-5).

Bayside quarterback Kenny Walker connected on eight of his 10 attempts for 188 yards and three touchdown passes - matching his season total - to Warren Clark. Clark caught four balls for 148 yards.
The Marlins (2-5, 2-4), who came in with only one 100-plus yard rushing performance this year, got 226 yards on the ground Friday, 214 more than Kellam.
