A BANNER DAY FOR NEW NORCOM HIGH GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY MARKS OFFICIAL SEND-OFF TO CONSTRUCTION.

ONGOING CONSTRUCTION of the new I.C. Norcom High School became official Wednesday, when the city staged an official groundbreaking ceremony.

The I.C. Norcom Band, known as the Marching Greyhounds, played for the occasion, which was attended by more than 300 people including busloads of current Norcom students.

The school, estimated to cost about $38 million at this time, is scheduled to open in the fall of 1997. It is located on the former site of the original Woodrow Wilson High School and Lawrence Stadium between High Street and London Boulevard. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photos by MARK MITCHELL
