14 MARLINS BASKETBALL GAMES ON WGH'S SLATE

Add the Virginia Wesleyan men to the list of college basketball teams that will be broadcast this season on WGH AM-1310, the area's all-sports radio station.

The station already carries Old Dominion men's and women's basketball, as well as selected Virginia Tech and North Carolina men's games. Adding the Division III Marlins is part of an effort to provide more local programming, program director Pete Medhurst said.

``Having something local is better than putting yourself on a satellite syndicate,'' Medhurst said. ``Virginia Wesleyan is a class product. We're hoping we can grow with them.''

The station plans to carry 14 Marlins games, starting with the Nov. 21 matchup with archrival Christopher Newport. None of the games will conflict with ODU games, Medhurst said.

Conflicts with North Carolina and Virginia Tech are minimal, Medhurst said. Just one North Carolina game and one Tech game conflict directly with a Virginia Wesleyan game. The station's contract with Tech requires it to carry at least 12 games. The station's agreement with North Carolina doesn't require a minimum number of games.

``There's plenty of (North Carolina) games we should be able to carry, or at least join in progress,'' Medhurst said.

Medhurst will do play-by-play on the Virginia Wesleyan broadcasts. by CNB
