EVELYN B. GWALTNEY

Evelyn Greene Bell Gwaltney, 79, of the 200 block of Lumar Road, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 1995, in Riverside Convalescent Center.

She was a native of Gates County, N.C. and had worked for a number of years in North End Newport News as an Avon representative. Mrs. Gwaltney was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield, and a former long-time member of Noland Memorial United Methodist Church, Newport News. Mrs. Gwaltney attended business school in Norfolk and had worked in the business office at Lakeview Hospital in Suffolk.

She is survived by her son and his wife, John M. and Sue Bell of Rapid City, S.D.; stepson, Steve Gwaltney; stepdaughter, Annabelle G. Whitehead; brother, Paul Green of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Tiffany M. Bell, Michael W. Bell, and Christopher J. Bell, all of Rapid City; and husbands, J. Marion Bell and William D. ``Bill'' Gwaltney. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne Bell.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Noland Memorial United Methodist Church, Newport News, with the Rev. Tony Forstall and the Rev. Jay Ashby officiating. The family will receive friends today from 3 to 4 p.m in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar St., Smithfield, Va., 23430, or Noland Memorial United Methodist Church, 5501 Huntington Ave., Newport News, Va. 23607.
