LEONDER GARRIS

Leonder ``Jack'' Garris, 82, of the 2700 block of Beachmont Ave., died Oct. 20, 1995.

A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Grant and Mattie Price Garris. He attended the Old St. Joseph's School where he was active in football. He was also a faithful member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as an usher and a steward. Mr. Garris was also an active member of the Broad Creek Civic League.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth P. Garris; and three sons, Leonder P. Garris, Basil L. Garris, and Michael E. Garris, all of Norfolk; sisters, Theresa Etheridge and Mattie Telfair of Virginia Beach; brothers, Melvin Garris of Portsmouth and Edward Garris of Norfolk; grandchildren, Jerron Garris and Heather Garris of Norfolk and Michael Garris of Germantown, Md.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church by Dr. Richard A. Councill. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. the day of the funeral. Graves Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
