WE POSED THIS QUESTION TO CANDIDATES IN THIS YEAR'S CONTESTED RACES: HOW SHOULD THE STATE RAISE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE SCHOOLS AND SET HIGHER PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR STUDENTS WHILE ASSURING THAT ALL SYSTEMS GET EQUITABLE FUNDING?

BUT MANY SAY FUNDING ALONE WON'T IMPROVE SCHOOLS; WHAT'S NEEDED IS A COMMITMENT TO HIGHER STANDARDS. HOW CAN THE STATE RAISE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS WHILE ASSURING FAIRNESS IN SPENDING RESOURCES?
CANDIDATES FROM BOTH SIDES POINT FINGERS SCARE TACTICS AND PROMISES WHILE EACH PARTY TRIES TO PAINT THE OTHER AS THE ENEMY OF EDUCATION, ALLEN IS FOCUSING ON REFORM; DEMOCRATS ARE CONCENTRATING ON MONEY.
