Adm. Jeremy Mike Boorda, chief of naval operations, will be the lead-off speaker at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a two-day symposium sponsored by the Atlantic Fleet and the Tidewater Section of the American Society of Engineers.
More than 2,000 people are expected at the Virginia Beach Pavilion, where 180 exhibitors and numerous speakers will discuss the art and special challenges of marine engineers. Admission is free.
Topics range from submarine maintenance, fiber-optic lighting and the Navy's ``Maintenance Blues'' to the use of composite materials in the carrier fleet and synthetic decking.
