BOOKER T. MAY DIVULGE PROBE TODAY

The outcome of an investigation into a possible second ineligible player at Booker T. Washington could be announced today when the Eastern District principals meet.

Ken Tilley, executive director of the Virginia High School League, said Tuesday that he is familiar with the case but could not comment on it directly. ``(The announcement) will have to come from the school,'' he said. ``Something may come from the district meeting tomorrow.''

Booker T. principal Joel Wagner was unavailable for comment.

Booker T. is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Eastern District. The player under investigation reportedly played in most of those games, including district victories over Lake Taylor and Granby.

Should the Bookers have to forfeit those games, Maury would move into first place at 1-0 and Booker T. would fall into last place at 0-2.

The VHSL upheld Booker T. Washington's appeal of the first ineligible player. That player appeared in only one game, a 10-8 victory over Oscar Smith.

The appeals committee agreed that the player submitted false information about his address, VHSL assistant director Claudia Dodson said. That player has since transferred back to Norview.

WHO'S HOT: Norview's James Whitley has completed 22 of 45 passes for 512 yards and eight touchdowns in his past three games. He also leads the area in punting with a 40.2-yard average. . . . Bayside's Jimmy Walker has completed 47 of 70 passes for 554 yards and five touchdowns in his past four games. . . in the past two games. . . . Booker T. Washington's Shawn Minter has three straight 100-yard rushing games. . . . Western Branch's Darren Walton has caught at least five passes in each of his past five games.

SHORT PASSES: Churchland's David Drake had four days to prepare for his debut at quarterback last Friday against Booker T. Washington. Drake, a halfback, was pressed into duty when starter Otis Jones (sprained ankle) and backup Steve Johnson (hip pointer) couldn't play. Drake passed for 54 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 18 yards in the 21-10 loss. Churchland coach Ken Taylor hopes Jones can start this week against Norview. . . . Lake Taylor will continue to go with senior Brian Kelly in place of quarterback Mario Elliott, who was dropped from the squad last week. The Titans are 3-5, but coach Bert Harrell is ready to start rebuilding. ``We'd like to think we can salvage the season, and Brian is not a bad runner or passer,'' Harrell said. . Miner completed 6 of 7 passes for 88 yards last week against Salem before leaving with a sprained ankle. . . . Teray Frost is Deep Creek's not-so-secret weapon. A valued defensive back, he's seen limited action on offense but is averaging 10 yards every time he touches the ball. Frost has rushed 22 times for 205 yards and four touchdowns, and caught two passes for 38 yards and one touchdown.

MILESTONES: Granby's Anthony King scored two touchdowns against Norview to give him 100 career points. . . . Western Branch's Shyrone Stith scored eight points against Lake Taylor, giving him 202 for his career. by CNB
