DURWOOD BACKUS

Durwood Backus, 74, died Oct. 24, 1995, in his home.

Mr. Backus, a native of Norfolk, was an Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Phillips Oldsmobile, as a parts department assistant manager, after 15 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Backus; one daughter, Joyce Lee McClimond of Saudi Arabia; one son, Warren D. Backus of Virginia Beach; one sister, Margaret Beatty of Colonial Beach, Va.; two brothers, Quincy Backus of Richmond, Robert G. Backus of Hopewell, Va.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m.
