Police arrested two residents of this Outer Banks beach town Wednesday morning after finding about 3 ounces of cocaine in their Gallery Row apartment, a police spokesman said.
Alejando Mendez, 43, was being held at the Dare County jail under $24,000 bond. His girlfriend, Heather Ann Christie Midgette, 25, was under a $14,000 bond.
Both are scheduled for a first appearance in Dare County court today.
The two were charged with felonious trafficking of cocaine and possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver, said Lt. Cliff Midgett of the Nags Head Police Department.
The arrests were the result of a two-week investigation conducted jointly by the Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head police departments.
A yellow labrador dog named Skeeter, who works in the Kill Devil Hills canine unit, sniffed out the drugs, Midgett said.
