TOP U.S. POLICYMAKER TO SPEAK TO LOCAL WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL

A top U.S. State Department policymaker will address the World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads Thursday evening.

Peter Tarnoff, undersecretary of state for political affairs, has been a key player in developing the Clinton administration's foreign policy in central Europe, China, Russia, the Middle East and the Caribbean.

Earlier in his career, Tarnoff worked as a special assistant to two secretaries of state, Edmund Muskie and Cyrus Vance. Prior to his current appointment, he was president of the Council on Foreign Relations.

He will speak at Boyd Dining Hall on the Virginia Wesleyan College campus. The program begins with a reception at 6:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and Tarnoff's remarks at 8.
