Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fair Thursday.
Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught some speckle trout, puppy drum and bluefish sporadically throughtout the day. The majority of action was from midway to the end of the pier.
On Avalon Pier a few scattered speckle trout were taken.
Nags Head Pier reported spot, small bluefish and speckle trout landed off and on during the day.
Puppy drum, small black drum, speckle trout and tailor blues were caught from Jennette's Pier. Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed plenty of black drum weighing from a half pound to a pound, speckle trout, small blues and some sea mullet.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported fair catches of trout, sea mullet and puppy drum.
Sea mullet, tailor blues and blowtoads were landed from Avon Pier. A big drum estimated at 45 pounds was released.
On Frisco Pier, 15 to 16-inch bluefish, sea mullet, a few nice flounder and puppy drum, some weighing up to 20 pounds, were landed.
Small bottom fish, scattered blues and a few puppy drum were taken from the surf along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet on Thursday.
Some good catches of trout were reported on Wednesday night from the catwalk on the Oregon Inlet Bridge.
Puppy drum, black drum and small blues were beached by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton.
Drum fishing was good at Cape Point Wednesday night with lots of 10- to 12-pound fish and a few larger specimens taken. A 47-inch cobia also was released during the evening. Good numbers of speckled trout were caught along the beach south of The Point Thursday on mullet strips. Quite a few sea mullet also were landed.
A few flounder and bluefish were taken in the surf from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.
King Mackerel catches off Oregon Inlet were good Thursday. Blue water fishermen landed fair numbers of yellowfin tuna, a few dolphin and several wahoos. Four white marlin were released by ``Hog Wild'' and two white marlin were released by the ``Right Hook.''
A few king mackerel, albacore and dolphin were taken by the Hatteras offshore fleet.
Night-time gray trout action along the Bonner Bridge should be good this weekend, provided winds remain onshore.
The water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 68 degrees on Thursday. by CNB
