Hampton Roads Admirals goaltender Corwin Saurdiff is improving and could be discharged from Chesapeake General Hospital by early next week.
Admirals trainer Rick Burrill said Saurdiff is no longer dehydrated and is regaining weight. He had lost 22 pounds from colitis, an inflammation of the colon that wasn't allowing his body to absorb food.
``He's getting better. It doesn't look like surgery will be needed and that's great,'' Burrill said.
A note for Admirals fans thinking of calling Saurdiff: don't try it. More than 300 fans tried to phone Saurdiff on Tuesday, when it was learned he had been hospitalized. Hospital officials have placed him in a room under an assumed name.
Darryl Paquette has started twice and Mark Bernard once in Saurdiff's place. Bernard is expected to start tonight when the Admirals host Raleigh at Scope. ILLUSTRATION: GAMEWATCH
