FIRE DAMAGES TWO BUSINESSES

A fire that apparently was started with piles of morning newspapers did minor damage Friday to Al's Nu-Image Mirror and Door Corp. and an adjacent pawn shop on U.S. Route 460.

The pawn shop, at one end of the brick building, houses a branch of the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's office in a back room.

Isle of Wight Couonty Sheriff C.W. Phelps said vandals apparently piled stacks of The Virginian-Pilot around the building and set them on fire about 3 a.m. Friday. The fire was reported almost immediately, Phelps said.

One plate glass window was broken, and the inside of the building had some smoke damage. Damages were about $1,000, Phelps said. by CNB
