ARTHUR E. VESTER

The Rev. Arthur Elma Vester, of Carlton Street, ascended Oct. 27, 1995, to his heavenly home.

Mr. Vester, a retired electronics technician, worked for Naval Air Rework Facility for 32 years. He was a native of Spring Hope, N.C., and attended school there and in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. He also was a bible student of Moody Bible Institute. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Norfolk. He was also a retired Southern Baptist minister. He was instrumental in organizing Brook Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, and Azalea Baptist Church in Norfolk. He was active in the Norfolk Baptist Association for many years. He served as pastor, interim and supply pastor for many churches in the Norfolk association. Because of his love for the Lord and Christian witness, many people came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Corinthian Lodge (NU)266, member of John Walters Royal Arch (NU)68 and the Khedive Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Marie Vester; two nieces; and two nephews.

A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. Richard Baker, the Rev. Larry Boyette and the Rev. James F. Burks in First Baptist Church of Norfolk. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, and also at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Norfolk Building Fund, the Shriners Children's Hospital, or the Alzheimers Association. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
