Manteo High School's dream of winning the North Carolina girls volleyball championship came to a disappointing end Saturday.
Only a victory away from moving into the championship showdown at Chapel Hill, Manteo was ousted by a determined team from West Guilford High School.
``We ran into a real buzz saw,'' said Manteo Coach Stu Serine. ``I don't even know what the score was, but I don't think we scored more than half a dozen in any game.''
The loss was the first of the season for Manteo, which carried a 25-0 record into the match with West Guilford. The winners, who have lost three times this year, now move into the championships. by CNB
