NORFOLK

On Oct. 8 at 1:30 a.m., someone vandalized a Bell Atlantic telephone company switching box in the 8600 block of Willow Terrace.

Someone removed a telephone interface, a green box that houses cross-connect wiring, leaving more than 300 customers without service for more than 24 hours.

The stolen equipment was valued at $3,500 and, with the cost of replacing it added in, the total cost to consumers was more than $10,000.

Two other boxes less than a mile away also were vandalized.
