BANKING
Charles A. Burcher and Joycelyn Y. Spight have joined Commerce Bank. Burcher is vice president and branch officer of the Oyster Point office in Newport News. He was formerly a vice president with NationsBank. Spight is the branch officer of the bank's Coliseum office in Hampton. She was formerly with Bay Savings Bank in Hampton.
ENGINEERING
Erich S. Whitt was appointed president/chief executive officer for Alpha Seven Inc., an engineering firm in Chesapeake specializing in document conversion. He had previously managed the southeast region as director of operations.
Elizabeth A. Christoff has joined Gannett Fleming Inc., a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firm in Newport News. She will be responsible for business development and regional marketing programs in the Southeast for water supply, geotechnical, transportation, and environmental services.
Also, Christopher T. Everett has joined Gannett Fleming Inc. in Newport News. He will be assigned to various water supply, wastewater systems and civil engineering projects. He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Lafayette College in Atlanta.
Larry Low has joined Engineering Solutions in Virginia Beach as vice president. The company is a consulting firm providing engineering design services for transportation and utility projects. Prior to joining the firm, he was a transportation project manager with HDR Engineering in Virginia Beach.
HEALTH CARE
Dr. Kevin M. Carbyn has joined the Tidewater Medical Group as a family practitioner at Haygood Family Practice in Virginia Beach. Prior to this, he was a family physician at the Heritage Medical Clinic in Holyrood, Newfoundland. He is also on the medical staff at Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Five new faculty physicians have joined the staff at Eastern Virginia Medical School where they will teach and provide patient care through EVMS Health Services or Pediatric Faculty Associates.
Dr. Mary L. Blumberg has been appointed assistant professor of internal medicine. She will see patients at EVMS' Center for Internal Medicine on Holland Road in Virginia Beach.
Also, Dr. Robin B. Churchill has been appointed instructor of pediatrics. Dr. Dena R. Hall was appointed assistant professor of family and community medicine. Dr. Han Kai was named visiting assistant professor of plastic surgery and Dr. Yasmin Tyler-Hill is the assistant professor of pediatrics. These four practice at the medical school in Norfolk.
RETAIL
Climatemakers Ltd. of Virginia has made some changes in its corporate structure as a result of the retirement of Henry T. Rodgerson, founder and chairman of the 43-year-old heating and air-conditioning company in Virginia Beach. Melba M. Miller will succeed him as chairman of the board of directors. She was the former president of the company. Merry Proctor will assume the position of president and chief executive officer. She was the general manage and had been assistant to the president for the past nine years. M.C. Liebold and Donald Sherman are the new vice presidents. And Martha Liebold is the new corporate secretary.
LAW
James L. Chapman IV, a partner with the firm of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin in Norfolk, was recently elected vice chairman of the 700-member Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute. He specializes in admiralty and transportation law.
Amy C. Balfour has become an associate with the law offices of J. Ridgely Porter III in Portsmouth. Before joining the firm, she clerked with the Henrico County Circuit Court and worked on the policy staff of Gov. George Allen. She received her law degree in 1993 from Washington and Lee University.
William C. Bischoff was named to the Virginia Beach law firm Stallings and Richardson. He will continue to practice in the areas of commercial litigation, creditor's rights and local government law. He was formerly a member of Croshaw, Beale, Hauser & Lewis in Virginia Beach.MEDIA
Wendy Juren was promoted from community affairs producer to public affairs manager at WVEC-TV. She joined the staff 10 years ago as a community affairs assistant and subsequently held the positions of associate producer and producer in that department.
Correction: Scott A. Price most recently served as the senior manager of Analysis & Technology's fleet support center in Chesapeake. The Oct. 23 issue of Business Weekly said he was associated with the Navy's fleet support center in Chesapeake. This was incorrect.
