Mary L. Starks, 79, of the 2400 block of Elm Ave., died Oct. 27, 1995, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mrs. Starks was born in Huntersville, N.C., and was the widow of Rueben Starks. She was a member and deaconess of St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was also a former member and treasurer of the Senior Choir. She was a member of Martha Chapter (NU)10, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Starks and a son, Thomas E. Starks, both of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Michael Starks, Deborah Jenkins, Grover Starks, Anthony J. Brown, Rueben Starks, Thomas E. Starks and Tina L. Starks; four great-grandchildren, Nikki Brown, Marc E. Jenkins, Ashley Starks and Whitley Starks; two great-great-grandchildren, Monica Brown and Josambi Montgomery; granddaughter-in-law, Brenda Starks; daughter-in-law, Mary L. Starks; and grandson-in-law, Marc E. Jenkins Jr.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. John Baptist Church by the Rev. John E. Jones. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday.
