UNFAITHWORTHY POLITICS

I have never before made use of a letter to the editor to voice my displeasure with negative societal conditions, behaviors or rhetoric, but recent political tactics of local Republican office-seekers have annoyed me to the point that I must.

Seemingly, some Republican candidates for state offices are willing to go to any negative extent simply because ``Governor Allen needs the support of a Republican majority to enact his policies.''

I make specific reference to the campaign ``literature'' that I received in the mail from Dan Evans for delegate. To say that the incumbent delegate, Billy Moore, ``is largely responsible for Portsmouth's exploding crime rate'' clearly demonstrates the type of irresponsibility that thinking voters must reject on Nov. 7 and in future elections. The Dan Evans statement is as unfaithworthy as the infamous Willie Horton pieces used earlier by Republicans.
