F. Robert Newton Jr., 78, died on Oct. 25, 1995, after a long illness.
Mr. Newton was born in Savannah, Ga., but spent most of his youth and adult years in Pennsylvania.
He began a career in electronics in Philadelphia and worked on the team at the University of Pennsylvania which produced the first computer (ENIAC) in the closing years of WWII. He retired from service with the Maryland Department of Transportation in 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sisters, Mrs. Melba Barry of White Haven, Pa., and Mrs. Thelma Resser of Oxford, Pa.; two children, Linda N. Reid of Greensboro, N.C., and James H. Newton of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. Brian Dill at the King's Grant Presbyterian Church, 745 Little Neck Road, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
