W.R. ATKINSON JR.

William Robert ``Bobbie'' Atkinson Jr., 78, of 328 Robinhood Road, died Oct. 29, 1995, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

A lifelong resident of Franklin, he was the son of the late William Robert Atkinson Sr. and Carrie Drake Atkinson.

Bobbie attended Franklin High School and was a member of Franklin Baptist Church. He worked as a draftsman with the Virginia Highway Department. He was a World War II veteran serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. Following his military service he served the community of Franklin as owner and operator of the Virginia Drug Store for 23 years. For the past 17 years he was associated with Smith Jewelers of Franklin.

Bobbie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann Dillon Atkinson; a daughter, Patricia Ann Atkinson Cobb of Franklin; three sons, William Robert Atkinson III, and Richard Dillon Atkinson of Franklin, and John Marshall Atkinson of Richmond; two sisters, Rose A. Wilkes of Raleigh, N.C., and Carolyn A. Bailey of Richmond; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poplar Spring Cemetery by Dr. Roy DeBrand. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, and suggests memorials be made to the Franklin Baptist Church, the Franklin Rescue Squad, or the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va.
