Alethia Woolard Shorter, 83, of 125 Lafayette Ave., died Oct. 29, 1995, in her home.
She was an Avon Representative for 23 years and was a native of Beauford County, N.C. She was a member of Colonial Heights Church of Christ where she was involved in the Ladies Aid Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Shorter of Norfolk; daughter, Deborah K. Stearns of Norfolk; two sons, Joe C. Shorter of Norfolk, and Robert L. Short Jr. of Norfolk; two sisters, Nellie Mae Lee of Washington, N.C., and Ola Dean Goff of Rocky Mount, N.C.; brother, Joe Grey Woolard Jr. of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sally Singleton Woolard and Joe Grey Woolard.
A funeral service will be conducted noon Wednesday by the Minister Steve Jones in Colonial Heights Church of Christ. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and also at the residence, 125 Lafayette Ave., Norfolk.
