HIRAM WHITMAN

Hiram Whitman, 70, of the 2500 block of Loferno Road, died Oct. 29, 1995, in Chesapeake.

Mr. Whitman was born in Cogan House, Township, Pa., and was a Presbyterian. He was a retired crane operator with Norfolk Naval Shipyard and with Lone Star Cement and was also a retired deliveryman for Bachand's Wadworking Co. He was a member of Portsmouth Masonic Lodge (NU)898 and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include wife, Mary S. Whitman of Chesapeake; two daughters, Melinda Whitman of Alexandria, Va., and Kathleen W. Woolard of Chesapeake; son, James P. Whitman of Chesapeake; sister, Thelma Boughman of Jersey Shore, Pa.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews from Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Douglas D. Gestwick in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Memorial in lieu of flowers may be made either to American Red Cross, The Salvation Army or the Union Gospel Mission, Brooke Ave., Norfolk, Va.
