Police said Monday a 42-year-old Portsmouth man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his wife with a shotgun Sunday afternoon. The man then apparently shot himself.
Debra Wimbush, 41, was found dead at her home in the 700 block of Lanier Crescent when police were called to the address about 4:30 p.m.
Her husband, David, barricaded himself in the house for about one hour after police arrived, but gave up without incident.
David Wimbush was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police said he had a shotgun wound in the chest.
