The Coast Guard reported that four men were rescued from a catamaran in the Atlantic early Monday by a freighter after their boat began sinking 100 miles east of the Chesapeake Bay. They were brought to Norfolk Monday evening in good condition.
The men, identified as Clive G. Farrow and Stephen J. Davis, both of Great Britain, Jeff A. Hardy of Canada and Erik A. Barone, an American, were on a trip from Novank, Conn., to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands when their boat, the Peregrine, started taking on water.
The freighter SKS Horizon heard their distress call. The Horizon took the men aboard and tried unsuccessfully to lift the Peregrine aboard. Rough weather prevented saving the boat. Crew members told the Coast Guard a cracked hull caused the flooding.
The SKS Horizon transferred the men to a Coast Guard boat Monday evening. The men were brought to the Little Creek Coast Guard Station about 5 p.m.
