SIGNAL IS NAMED MINORITY SERVICE FIRM OF THE YEAR

Signal Corp., a Fairfax-based high technology company with offices in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, was recently named the U.S. Small Business Administration's National Minority Service Firm of the Year.

Signal Corp., which averages $25 million in yearly revenue, employs 119 people in the Hampton Roads area and provides systems engineering, software design and development and network engineering, and administers local area networks. It serves government agencies like the branches of the Defense Department, the Commerce Department and the Customs office.

The company was named to the 1995 Washington Technology Fast 50 list, the 1995 National Technology Fast 500 list, and received the 1995 Arthur Andersen FastTrack Award in recognition of its growth in the last three years.

Signal's Chesapeake facility provides support services to the Navy through a subcontract to Westinghouse. It also provides engineering and CAD support services to many different customers.

Signal employs 470 people and has 22 offices in 12 states. Its Chesapeake office employs 86 people and Virginia Beach has 33 on the payroll.

President and CEO Roger Mody was honored this year with the KPMG Peat Marwick High Tech Entrepreneur of the Year award for the greater Washington region. Mody was also recently named the SBA National Small Business Person of the Year for 1995. by CNB
