A man who sexually assaulted a woman for four hours, then fell asleep in her bed has been sentenced to three life terms plus 30 years.
Robert Conway was convicted earlier this year of burglary, abduction, attempted rape, robbery and forcible sodomy. On Monday, Circuit Judge Charles E. Poston imposed the maximum sentence.
Conway was arrested in December after breaking into the victim's house in East Ocean View.
He was free on bond in a 1993 sexual-assault case when the December assault occurred, police said.
Conway and his victim lived in the same apartment complex but not the same building, police said.
In the early hours of Dec. 16, he knocked on the woman's door and tried to persuade her to open it. When she refused, he kicked down the door and robbed her, police said.
He then sexually assaulted the woman for four hours, police said. When he fell asleep, the woman escaped and called police from a nearby pay phone.
When officers arrived, Conway was still asleep in the woman's bed.
