A charity golf tournament Monday raised $4,600 for the Jennifer Lea Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund, bringing the fund's total to nearly $15,000, police said Tuesday.
Evans, a pre-medical student from Emory University in Atlanta, was slain June 19 while on vacation in Virginia Beach. Two Navy SEAL candidates have been charged.
Police officers Lou Thurston and Mike Carey, who set up the fund and organized the golf tournament, plan to travel to the university soon to donate the money. The scholarship will benefit Emory students.
