UNOPPOSED IN HOUSE OF DELEGATES

In western Tidewater, Republican Robert E. Nelms and Democrat J. Paul Councill Jr. are running for re-election to the House of Delegates without opposition.

Nelms, 35, represents the 76th District, which includes precincts in Suffolk and Isle of Wight County.

A Suffolk environmental consultant and construction company executive, he is seeking his third term.

Councill, 73, represents the 75th District, which includes precincts in Franklin and Isle of Wight, Southampton and Surry counties.

A 22-year veteran, he has seniority on several influential House committees.

He is chairman of the education committee, vice chairman of the agricultural and the conservation and natural resources committees and a member of the appropriations committee.
