While Southampton County candidates in six contested races are busy knocking on doors and drumming up support, five other incumbents are expected to be returned to office without battle.
Two constitutional officers and three members of the Board of Supervisors have no competition.
Those running for re-election without opposition on the ballot are:
Commonwealth's Attorney Richard C. Grizzard, who defeated Boykins attorney Inga E. Francis in the June primary for the Democratic nomination.
Sheriff Vernie E. Francis Jr., a Democrat, who was first elected to office in 1983.
Drewryville district supervisor Dallas O. Jones, a Democrat who has been on the board 12 years.
Newsoms district supervisor Charleton W. Sykes, a Democrat who was first elected to the board in 1983.
Jerusalem district supervisor Eppa J. ``Jimmy'' Gray Jr., an independent who won his seat in 1991.
There are also no contested local races in Franklin. Voters there will help elect the Southampton County sheriff and commonwealth's attorney.
Voters in both localities will also cast ballots for candidates in races for the Senate and House of Delegates.
