Robert Nelson Sprinkle, 71, of the 2000 block of Wood Duck Drive, died Oct. 30, 1995.
He was a sales representative for Norfolk Southern Corporation until he retired after 36 years. He was a native of Reidsville, N.C., and a member of Sandbridge Community Chapel of the United Methodist Church. He was founding member and band leader of the Nitty-Gritty Sandband of Sandbridge. They played for various organizations and charitable groups in the Tidewater area. He was a member of the Norfolk-Southern Traffic Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lee Sprinkle.
He is survived by his wife, Oweeda C. Sprinkle; two daughters, Sheila S. Dunn of Atlanta, Ga., Denise S. Martindale of Virginia Beach; mother, Lillian Nichols Sprinkle; brother, William L. Sprinkle of Virginia Beach; three grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Sloan of Virginia Beach and Destiny Dunn of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Edward S. Martin Jr. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
