A teenage boy fired a sawed-off shotgun into a crowd of trick-or-treaters Tuesday night in the Pughsville section of northern Suffolk. No one was injured.
The incident occurred about 7 p.m. in the 4000 block of John St. The teenager fired a 12-gauge shotgun toward the group of two adults and nine children, ranging from two to 17, from about 30 yards away, said police spokesman Mike Simpkins. No one was hit.
He reloaded and fired again into the air, then ran, Simpkins said.
The teen, a student at Nansemond River High School who lives in Pughsville, was arrested nearby and taken to Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake. He was charged with possession of a sawed off shotgun and 11 counts each of attempted malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police said the shooting apparently was in retaliation against someone in the crowd for a previous incident.
