Pier fishing along the Dare coast was generally slow Wednesday.
Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught a few speckled trout.
On Avalon Pier, some small speckled trout were landed during the morning on bucktails and jiggers. A few bluefish and keeper puppy drum also were taken.
A few nice-size speckled trout and some small flounder were caught on Nags Head Pier.
Jennette's reported slow fishing, with only a few bluefish taken.
An occasional speckled trout, small blues, black drum and sea mullet were landed from Outer Banks Pier.
Rodanthe Pier reported a few puppy drum, sea mullet and bluefish caught throughout the day.
On Avon Pier, a handful of black drum, mullet and tailor blues were landed.
Frisco Pier reported the best fishing of the day. Quite a few five- to eight-pound puppy drum, along with scattered sea mullet and a couple of flounder, were taken.
Surf-fishing along the northern beaches was mediocre Wednesday. Quite a few small bottom-fish and bluefish were taken.
Around Oregon Inlet, a few trout, puppy drum and sea mullet were landed.
Along the beach from Oregon Inlet to Buxton, some puppy drum, bluefish and black drum were taken.
At Cape Point, puppy drum and yearling drum were landed Tuesday night. Scattered puppy drum and bluefish were beached Wednesday.
A few flounder and bluefish were taken by surf-casters from Frisco to Hatteras Inlet.
Striped bass hook-and-release fishing was good Wednesday in Croatan Sound. Anglers trolling near the Manns Harbor Bridge caught plenty of fish weighing up to 10 pounds.
Oregon Inlet and Pirate's Cove charters landed fair catches of yellowfin tuna and king mackerel Wednesday. The best of the tuna fishing was around the 40630 Loran line. Hatteras charters reported fair tuna and wahoo action.
Westerly winds should produce good drum fishing at Cape Point for the next couple of days.
Water temperature at the Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 69 degrees Wednesday. by CNB
