Virginia's Eastern Shore Economic Empowerment and Housing Corp. received a $32,000 grant this week.
The grant came from the newly established Rural Local Initiatives Support Corp., a national partnership of government, corporate and philanthropic organizations focused on rural revitalization. It is part of $302 million in loans and grants that will be funneled over the next four years to 68 nonprofit community developers in 39 states.
The Eastern Shore housing group is one of two in Virginia that will participate in the Rural LISC program. The other is People Incorporated of Southwest Virginia.
In addition to the initial grant, the Eastern Shore group will have further access to grants, loans, recoverable grants, equity and other financing tools for development activities. It also will receive ongoing technical assistance. by CNB
