Richfood's earnings increase 21 percent
Richfood Holdings Inc., the wholesale food distributor based in Richmond, said its second-quarter profits increased 21 percent. Donald D. Bennett, chairman and chief executive officer, credited controlled costs and ``excellent momentum in sales.'' The company said it earned $6.5 million, or 31 cents per share, for the three-month period ended Oct. 14. That's up from $5.4 million, or 25 cents a share, for the year-earlier quarter. Sales increased 12.3 percent to $387.2 million in the second quarter of fiscal 1996 from $344.6 million in the same period a year earlier. by CNB
