THE HOSPICE REGATTA of Greater Hampton Roads, organized this year to raise money for area hospices, netted approximately $25,000 according to Julie Sligh, chair of the regatta board.
The funds will be distributed to Portsmouth-based EDMARC, Full Circle, Hospice Volunteers of Portsmouth, Riverside Hospice, Hospice Support of Williamsburg, Hospice Support of the Eastern Shore, and the hospice at Riverside Walter Reed in Gloucester.
The hospices are volunteer organizations that help the terminally ill and their families cope with the physical, emotional and practical problems related to their illnesses.
Dr. Bill Peach in ``Revenge,'' from Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, was the regatta's overall winner. He will be the first to have his name engraved on the regatta's perpetual trophy, a bronze sculpture of dolphins donated by the artist David Turner of Onley. by CNB
