Nathan McCall, who became a best-selling author with his autobiographical look at growing up black in Portsmouth, has scheduled a homecoming with old neighbors.
The 40-year-old journalist will be the keynote speaker for the 13th annual Awards Night of Cavalier Manor's neighborhood watch organization.
The event - a fund-raiser as well as a recognition banquet - will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Drydock Club.
McCall, on leave from The Washington Post, has signed a movie deal with John Singleton and is writing the screenplay to his book, ``Makes Me Wanna Holler: A Young Black Man in America.'' He is also writing a second book.
Tickets for the buffet-style dinner are $25 and are being sold now by members of the Cavalier Manor Police Community Relations. Seating will be limited.
