THEODORE D. TAKIS

Theodore D. Takis, 82, of 46 Sweetbriar Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at Riverside Hospital.

Mr. Takis was born in Kouvouklion-Proussa, Asia-Minor, and raised in Serras, Greece. A graduate of the military academy of Athens, Greece, he retired with the rank of major in the army. He emigrated to the United States in 1951 and settled in Newport News, where he and his wife, Anna, owned and operated the Ventura Grill Restaurant from 1953 to 1966 and the Christopher Newport College Sandwich Shop from 1965 to 1974. He was a devoted member of Saints Constantine and Helene Greek Orthodox Church, the Ahepa for 42 years, the Socrates Club, the Cretan Society and the Golden Hearts.

Mr. Takis is survived by his loving children, Sofos K. Takis, Tessie and Andy Baker, Flossie and Jimmy Kaligos, Betty and Bill Haney; four grandsons, Tom and David Haney and Chris and Art Kaligos.

A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in Riverside Funeral Home, by Father Makris. The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, in Saints Constantine and Helene Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 863, Newport News, Va. 23607. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
