Blanche Hooper Meekins, 91, of Manteo, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1995, at her residence.
Mrs. Meekins was a native of Stumpy Point and a homemaker. She was an active member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church and interested in Missionary ministry. Mrs. Meekins was a charter member of the United Methodist Women, having served as Elizabeth City District President and many other local and district offices. She was the daughter of the late Marvin Hooper and Mrs. Clara Mason Hooper. Mrs. Meekins was the widow of the Rev. Earl R. Meekins, whom she married in 1923 in Stumpy Point. She was predeceased by one daughter, Lois Meekins Jackson.
Mrs. Meekins is survived by two daughters, Ina Meekins Evans of Manteo, and Mary Meekins Beauchamp of Norfolk; two sisters, Mae Hooper Watson and Ruby Hooper Osborne, both of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A church service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 1995, at 2 p.m. in the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Bundy. Entombment will follow in the Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Earl R. and Blanche Hooper Meekins Scholarship Fund, C/O Louisburg College, 501 N. Main Street, Louisburg, N.C., 27549. The family will receive friends at the Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, Nov. 3, 1995. Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
