U.S. Navy retired Capt. Thomas Edward Hopson, 53, of the 2100 block of Partridge Place, died Nov. 1, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
He retired from the U.S. Navy after 29 years of service and was a salesman for Duke Buick and Cadillac, Suffolk. He was a native of Portsmouth and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Staff College, Norfolk, and U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, Pa. He was commander of Amphibious Squadron 9, San Diego, and commanding officer of U.S.S. Cleveland and U.S.S. Barnstable County. He served on the staff of the Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan. He was a past member of Churchland Lions Club, and a member of North Suffolk Rotary Club, and Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita F. Hopson; two daughters, Holly Anne Hopson of Suffolk, Tracy Elizabeth Hopson of Knoxville, Tenn.; one son, Thomas Hopson Jr. of Suffolk; six sisters; and two brothers.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church, Chuckatuck, by the Rev. M. Webster Maughan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.
