INTERCEPTIONS VAULT N-SA PAST HOST GREENBRIER 14-0

Joe Riddick and C.T. Harry each returned an interception for a touchdown as Nansemond-Suffolk downed host Greenbrier Christian 14-0 to clinch second place in the TCIS Thursday in the season finale for both football teams.

Riddick's return, a 45-yarder, came with 17 seconds left in the first half for the Saints (3-7, 3-1). Harry's interception return was for 24 yards and came with 50 seconds left in the game. Harry also made a fourth-quarter interception in his own end zone to thwart the Gators' best scoring opportunity.

In TCIS boys soccer:

Nansemond-Suffolk 4, Norfolk Christian 0: Jay Habel had a hat trick and Carter Johns had two assists as the third-seeded Saints won a semifinal. Nansemond-Suffolk will host No. 4 Hampton Roads in the final Saturday.

Hampton Roads 3, Norfolk Collegiate 2: The Navigators converted all five of their penalty kicks in the shootout to upend the top-seeded Oaks. Collegiate forced overtime when Jason Jordan scored on a direct free kick from 45 yards out in the final minute of regulation.

In boys volleyball:

Tallwood 2, Kellam 1: Kevin Jones had 16 kills, Patrick Rooney added 10 and Chuck Beeson nine as the No. 1 Lions outlasted the No. 7 Knights 15-5, 5-15, 15-6 in a Beach District semifinal. Host Tallwood will play Cox in the final Saturday.

Cox 2, First Colonial 1: Josh Zuidema had 16 kills and five blocks and Owen Matter added 12 kills as the No. 2 Falcons rallied past the No. 3 Patriots 7-15, 15-12, 15-8 to the Beach's second seed in next week's Eastern Region tournament.

Catholic 3, Norfolk Christian 0: Mike Sachon made 19 kills and Jeff Alberts added 14 as the No. 9 Crusaders won 15-7, 15-4, 15-9 in the TCIS tournament final.

In girls basketball:

Southampton Academy 51, Huguenot Academy 35: Anna Story scored 17 points as the Raiders advanced to the Virginia Commonwealth Conference final.

In today's action:
