Donald E. Bruce, 82, of the 3600 block of Kevin Drive, died Nov. 2, 1995, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Burlington, Vt., and was a Warrant Officer 4 for the U.S. Navy until he retired after 30 years of service. He also retired as a deputy sheriff after 17 and a half years with the Norfolk Sheriff's Department. Mr. Bruce was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church. He was also a national member of Fleet Reserve Association; Retired Officers Association; and Police Association of Virginia. Mr. Bruce was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack while he was stationed aboard the USS SELFRIDGE DD-357.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Helen Bruce; son, Don Bruce and his wife, Judy, of Norfolk; brother, Robert Bruce of New Bern, N.C; four grandsons, Matthew P. Bruce and Daniel S. Bruce, both of Salisbury, Md., Michael Steven of Chesapeake, and Daniel Bruner of Lansing, Mich.; three granddaughters, Kathleen M. Crews of Jacksonville, Fla., Lorraine McGraw and Debra Waide, both of Virginia Beach; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Stevens and James Bruce. He was predeceased by one son, Richard P. Bruce.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Anthony Diffenbaugh in St. Peters Episcopal Church. Burial is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo
